What is Counselling & Psychotherapy?

Counselling & Psychotherapy are talking therapies which involve talking to a trained professional about your thoughts, feelings, and behaviour. There are many diverse types of talking therapy, but they all aim to:

  • Provide a safe time and place to talk to someone who won’t judge you.
  • Support you to make sense of your difficulties and understand yourself better.
  • Support you to resolve complicated feelings or find ways to better live with them.
  • Support you to recognise unhelpful patterns in the way you think or act and find ways to change them (if you want to).

The service adheres to a strict code of conduct and polices for confidentiality. The information you share with us will only be used to support you in your counselling and will not be shared with any third party unless there are exceptional circumstances such as safeguarding issues or where we are required to do so by law.

Our low-cost counselling takes place in-person at our premises in Monck Street (Westminster) or online.

Sessions are delivered weekly on a short term or long term basis as agreed.

  • Assessment Fee: £50
  • Session Fee: £45
  • Reduced session fees: £35. Reduced session fees apply to students and people with low income and on state benefits (documentation evidence of support will be required prior to the counselling assessment).
  • Fees to be paid in advance to secure the assessment booking and subsequent treatment appointments.

Our Counsellors

Counselling takes place with experienced and qualified counsellors, as well as counsellors in training. Counsellors in training are usually in their 2nd or 3rd year of training and have experience delivering clinical counselling sessions. All counsellors in our service receive clinical supervision by an experienced clinical supervisor. All counsellors are registered and accredited or working towards accreditation with the BACP, UKCP and HCPC.

Please be aware that counsellors-in-training are required to record their sessions as part of their ongoing development to strengthen their practice and support you in your counselling treatment. Sessions are only recorded with consent and are securely kept for the counsellors’ access only throughout their training. Recordings are then securely deleted once the counsellor-in-training has qualified.

RISE Counselling is not suitable for people:

  • Currently receiving psychological therapy from another service or therapist at the same time as being seen in our service.

How to access the service:

1. Referral

You can start the process by clicking the referral button and completing the online form.

2. Assessment

Once your referral form is received, we will review your referral form, and the Counselling Service will contact you to arrange an appointment for an assessment. We aim to be in touch within 2 weeks. Assessments can take place in person or online, last 50 minutes and cost £50.

The assessment allows the team to better understand your needs and to make the right recommendations for you.

3. Allocation

After the assessment, the clinical team will carefully match you with an appropriate counsellor. If for any reason our low-cost service is not the right service for your needs, the clinical team will offer you alternative advice, resources and signposting options.
